Learn What to Look for When Purchasing a Telephone System

Ask around. How did other businesses procure their office phone systems? Was their experience positive or negative? Talk to as many business owners as you can to learn about vendors, pricing, and phone options. If you have seen a phone system at another business that you liked, ask the business owner about that particular system. Maybe it will work in your office too.

Test every system before you commit to one, and demo it before you buy. Don't just rely on pictures and online demonstrations. Everyone in your office, as well as your clients, will need to rely on the system you choose, so choose wisely and be hands-on. See how easy or difficult accessing voicemail and extensions will be and check the quality of the speaker phone. Inspect voicemail compatibility. Keep your options open and don't buy the first system you demo- always look around and compare systems before making a commitment.

Install more wiring to avoid having to do it in the bear future- request double the wiring you need when your system is purchased. While it will add to the cost of your system now, it will save you money in the long run. Shop for a dealer at the start of the quarter when sales targets have just been set, and make your purchase at the end of the quarter when you may receive a lower price. Once again, remember to always shop around as much as possible- you never want to miss out on the very best deal available to you and your company!
